Water weighs a lot. This is why wrestlers and boxers try to sweat out weight before they weigh in. This practice isn’t healthy and shouldn’t be done unless you need to and are under the supervision of a doctor. What you can do is limit the causes of water retention. 

Work on a healthy lifestyle

First and foremost, maintain a healthy lifestyle. Stay active as much as you can and have a good look at your diet. These two things will greatly reduce the odds of you experiencing anything adverse related to your health. Once you have established a healthy workout routine and diet, it is time to talk about what you can change to manage bloating.

Add fibre

One thing that might help reduce bloating is a diet that is higher in fibre. Some foods are harder to digest than others and can cause digestive issues and bloating. Fibre is great for getting things moving through the gut. Foods that are high in fibre include fruits and vegetables. These are things you should be eating plenty of anyway. Just don’t completely overload your diet with fibre. Consult a dietician to work out a diet that will work best for you.

Foods to avoid

Foods you should avoid or limit are beans, fatty, salty and fried food. These can cause gas and water retention. Also, carbonated beverages can cause excess gas buildup in the stomach.

Another tip that might help is eating smaller meals throughout the day. This doesn’t mean eat less, but break up your regular meals into smaller ones to eat during the day. This can really help with digestion as metabolism slows with different hormones.

Keep drinking water

Water retention might be the cause of your bloating, but drinking less water to reduce bloating might do more harm than good. It might help you look better, but physically, your body will be worse off. Bloating isn’t a sign that you are over hydrated. 

Water is crucial for almost everything your body does, so restricting your liquid intake will most likely lead to other negative symptoms much worse than a little bloating.

Menopause is part of being a woman. It is a sign of completing one chapter of your life and moving on to the next. Hormones are fluctuating wildly and it can be a challenge to manage it all. But it is also an opportunity to learn more about yourself and make lifestyle changes that will keep you healthy for many more years.
